30 Facts You Never Knew About Chocolate

There may not be any more room in our brains for certain things like the trig functions we learned in high school, but there will always be enough space for more information about chocolate. Fortunately for all you fellow chocolate fiends out there, Mental Floss has just come out with a new video that shares 30 random facts about chocolate that you probably never knew.

For one, it turns out that "according to USAToday, 100 pounds of chocolate are eaten in the U.S. every second." That is scary. And wonderful. Americans aren't the biggest consumers of chocolate around the world, however. The Swiss, Germans, Irish and Brits eat the most chocolate out of anyone in the world. In these countries, the average person eats approximately 24 pounds of chocolate per year.

In addition to exposing startling consumption statistics, the video also reveals surprising historical facts about chocolate. For example, Hershey's Kisses came out in 1907, and until 1921, they were wrapped by hand! While that is undeniably cool, the video may also reveal some less-than-rosy facts. It may even taint your nostalgic attachment to "Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory."

You'll learn how willing people are to give up their computer passwords for a bar of chocolate (way more than you might think). You'll also finally learn what the deal is with dogs and chocolate. Can they eat it or can't they?

If anything is worth spending time on today, this latest episode of The List Show is definitely it. You already eat enough chocolate to be an expert on the matter. It's time to graduate to the next level of your chocolate education with this awesome video.
