Russell Westbrook Surprises Single Mom With His New MVP Car. Her Reaction Is Priceless
Russell Westbrook won a brand new Kia after being named the 2015 All-Star Game MVP, but the Oklahoma City Thunder star isn't keeping the new set of wheels.
Instead, Westbrook reportedly surprised a single mom named Kerstin Gonzalez with the car on Monday. It was a moving moment for both of them.
Gonzalez has two sons, ages 4 and 6, and receives assistance from Sunbeam Family Services, an Oklahoma City-based social services organization. According to the Thunder, her car had not been in good shape and she’d been borrowing vehicles from family and friends to get to work and school.
When Westbrook surprised Gonzalez with the keys to his car, the young mom said she initially thought it was all “a prank.”
“[But] when he showed me the keys, I was like ‘this is real.’ That’s when I started to cry because it’s been such a hard time,” Gonzalez said, per a Thunder blog post.
The NBA star decided to give the car to Gonzalez to honor “all the hard work” she had done to “to keep her family together.”
