Hillary Clinton Takes Road Trip To Iowa For First Campaign Event

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton is hitting the road as she starts her 2016 presidential campaign — quite literally.

Clinton left Sunday on a road trip from her home in Chappaqua, New York, in a van headed for Iowa.

The former secretary of state announced her Democratic presidential bid Sunday and is appearing at her first event in eastern Iowa on Tuesday.

Longtime aide Huma Abedin tells Clinton alumni during a Sunday night conference call that it was Clinton's idea to make the roughly 1,000-mile trip to Iowa by van.

She says the van stopped at a gas station in Pennsylvania, where Clinton met a family from Michigan.

Abedin says "it's safe to say she surprised quite a few people" who had stopped at the gas station.
