Here's Yet Another Sober Reminder We're Not Living In A Post-Racial Society

In Wisconsin, the state with the highest annual African-American unemployment rate, nearly 1 in 5 black people are unemployed.

The states with the next highest rates of black unemployment were Nevada (16.1 percent) and Michigan (15.8 percent), according to a new analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data released by the Economic Policy Institute on Thursday. The issue brief is a sobering reminder that black Americans continue to face troublingly high unemployment rates.

Nationwide, 11 percent of black Americans were out of a job in the last quarter of 2014. That jobless rate is still higher than what the national unemployment rate was at its recession high of 9.9 percent during the last three months of 2009. It's also more than double the annual white unemployment rate of 4.9 percent last year.

Here's a breakdown of black unemployment rates, per state, as compared to white unemployment rates. All states with sufficient data had a black unemployment rate that's higher than the national unemployment rate, which fell to 5.5 percent in February.
